Srinagar, Feb 18 (KNO): With the holy month of Ramadan beginning tomorrow, Srinagar’s markets are buzzing as shoppers and vendors gear up for the festivities. Stalls are alive with a vibrant variety of dates, a staple for breaking the fast. Traders, speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that this year’s selection includes both locally grown dates and premium imports from multiple countries, ranging from sweet Medjool to nutrient-rich Ajwa. “Compared to a few years back, shoppers now have far more choices. People are looking for both quality and variety, not just locally grown but imported dates as well,” said Rashid Ahmad, a vendor at Maharaji Bazar. Popular markets such as Maharaji Bazar, Zaina Kadal, and Koker Bazar have seen heavy footfall in recent days. Families are buying dates alongside dry fruits, beverages, and other essentials to ensure they have enough for Sehri (pre-dawn meal) and Iftar (breaking the fast). “We come early to avoid the rush and pick the best dates for the family,” said Ayesha Bhat, a local resident. “Dates are not just about tradition; they are also nutritious and a good way to break the fast,” added Imran, another shopper—(KNO)
